Protein is an essential nutrient for humans. The essence of this nutrient is increased for athletes. This is because athletes are using their muscles at high efforts very often, this repetitive use means muscle fibres tear. The only way these muscle fibres can repair is through protein. Protein helps muscle fibres join together which repairs and builds them to a position where they are stronger than what they originally were before use. This is not only essential for athletes but for players who are suffering from muscular injuries. Muscular injuries usually consist of strains, this is where you have overstretched and therefore muscle fibres within your muscle have ripped. In order for these muscle fibres to connect and strengthen protein is needed, as previously mentioned.
However, every athlete should note carefully the way they eat protein. Protein is very beneficial when eaten correctly. Protein cannot be stored by the human body, so when too much protein is eaten at once, the excess protein is wasted. The body excretes the additional protein and therefore is wasted. So to prevent you from wasting protein make sure you don't eat too much at once. Try and eat small amounts throughout a day.
Don't get me wrong, all forms of protein is beneficial for the body. However, white meat is definitely better for the body then red meat. One reason for this being that white meat has less fat and therefore is a richer source of protein. Not only this, white meat, such as chicken and fish, has a similar protein formation to humans and therefore takes less time for the human body to digest. But this doesn't mean don't eat red meat or else you would get bored of white meat. Try balance your diet so you are prevented from boredom.
