When looking to become a footballer, everyone ideally wants to be scouted for an academy and then hope they progress into the first team. However, this is not the case for almost all kids in an academy. Being dropped from an academy happens at various stages and thus results in the player not having a club. Becoming a footballer is ridiculously hard, but a great alternative to academy football is semi professional football. Here are two of the main reasons why you should consider going semi pro:
1. Semi Professional games are being viewed by scouts now more than they ever have been. With the rise of stars such as Jamie Vardy, clubs are sending scouts to lower league in hope of producing similar outcomes. the reason for this being, it is a lot cheaper than looking at buying academy players from other clubs and also the certainty that comes from buying a semi pro player. When scouting for an academy, a scout is predicting whether they will be good enough in years to come. However, scouts at semi pro games are looking to see if any players can benefit their clubs first team as the players are a lot olde2. As a player who is not in an academy you may spend months trying to get yourself into an a professional club. This is wasting valuable time. Looking at semi professional set ups around you will get you playing football regularly and be in the eye of many people. Not only this semi-pro is by no means easy and definitely a challenge for any players, whether that is technically or physically and will therefore see improvements within your own game. veral

Overall Semi Pro football should definitely be an option when over the age of 16. Semi Pro is from between step 5 and step 11 in England, therefore being many possible options across the whole of the UK that you should consider.
